Peter Frost first arrived in Peru in 1971, for a month-long visit. He stayed for three years, traveling about the Andes as Staff Travel Correspondent for the Peruvian Times, a small English-language magazine then published in Lima. He has been exploring the Andes and Amazon ever since, focusing especially on the powerful Inca dynasty that ruled the Andes from the early fourteen-hundreds until the Spanish invasion of 1532.

In 2001-2002 he mounted an exploration into little-known areas of Peru’s Vilcabamba mountains, locating the unreported Inca site of Qoriwayrachina (Qori-Why-Ra-CHEE-na) [see National Geographic magazine, Feb., 2004], and following leads from there which led him to new discoveries further west at the site of Wiracochan, in 2012-16.
He has authored four books on Peru and Ecuador, including Exploring Cusco, the classic guide to the Cusco region, and the photo guide Machu Picchu Historical Sanctuary. He has worked as a trekking guide and expedition leader, writer and photographer since the early 1980s, and currently lectures on the history and culture of Peru, working as an accompanying expert with National Geographic Expeditions
